Using the library’s print and digital collections and general knowledge, LA Law Library Reference librarians offer one on one research and training at the Main Library in person, by phone or email. Knowledgeable law librarians will identify research paths to find answers to your legal questions, provide instruction for searching the legal databases available at LA Law Library, or searching legal resources on the internet.
LA Law Library Reference Staff:
- Listen to your question(s)
- Identify research methods for finding an answer
- Provide instructions on using the print and digital resources offered at the law Library
- Help with document delivery requests and interlibrary loans
- Clarify legal citations
- Finding Legislative history information
- Provide Formal and informal training (Lexis Advance, Westlaw, Legal Trac, locating documents, Pacer, and paralegal skills, free websites, learning legal documents in print.)
- Give tours of the library

Reference questions are answered by librarians from California's County Public Law Libraries, and LA Law librarians provide hours of coverage per week in answering law questions. This is a cooperative service of nationwide librarians, so your question will not necessarily be answered by a LA Law Librarian.
