  • File for federal and/or state trademark registration for product names, packaging, slogans, and logos.
  • Use the "©" symbol only with federally registered marks, and use "™" for unregistered marks or state trademark registrations.
  • File for copyright registration for any website, written works, graphics, design, or any other work that might need protection from direct copying.
  • Use the "©" symbol, author's name, and date of the work on all original materials, including catalogs, advertisements, websites, unique product designs, graphics, etc.
  • Register all company names and popular product names.

An appeal is very different from trial court proceedings. There are many misconceptions about how appeals work and what the appellate courts will consider. Learn what an appeal is, the steps to take to appeal a trial court decision and the importance of the concept of harmful, judicial error.

  • How the appellate court reviews the trial court's decision
  • Steps to appeal
  • The limits of appellate review
  • Designating the record

Presented by: David Axelrad
David is a partner at Horvitz & Levy, where he has practiced since 1982. He is a California State Bar Certified Appellate Specialist, and has handled hundreds of civil appeals in state and federal courts, including cases in the California Supreme Court. He regularly counsels clients on toxic tort and personal injury cases, and guides clients through the process of preserving the record in the trial court, attacking judgments in the trial court through post trial motions, staying enforcement of judgments, and perfecting an appeal.
