Legal Name & Gender Marker Change Workshop

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018   1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Legal volunteers will help you complete the court forms necessary for you to petition the court for a legal name and gender marker change, and a filing fee waiver.

Assistance Includes:

  • Supplying the new court forms needed to file for a legal name & gender marker change
  • Providing the forms needed to ask the court to waive filing fees, based on income
  • Assistance completing the forms
  • Providing the address for where to file your completed court forms
  • Sharing information about recent changes in the law
  • Providing information for updating federal and state identity documents

What to bring:

  • Social Security Number (SSN), if applicable
  • Driver's license or California identification number, if applicable
  • Household income information to determine eligibility for fee waiver. This can include: pay stubs, disability or unemployment statements, or any other proof of income

Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles offers a teleconferencing center right here at the Main branch of LA Law Library, where you can speak to a lawyer live, send them documents and get answers to important questions. They offer legal advice and guidance to eligible individuals on housing / landlord- tenant matters and victims of domestic violence who are going through a family law proceeding. They can also provide referrals to private attorneys, other legal services, and other resources as needed.

Landlords & Tenants: Evictions & Collections

In California, a landlord can evict a tenant for not paying rent on time or violating the lease or rental agreement. This training will go over the rules and procedures in the California evictions and collection process.
