1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Forms Processing

In California, many families struggle to care for adults who are not able to care for themselves. For these families, a court-approved conservatorship may help. It allows a responsible person or organization to assist an adult with a disability with personal care or finances. This session provides general information about the court process and help in preparing and filing documents to request appointment as a probate conservator.

Morning session provides an overview of conservatorships and the petition process. Afternoon session provides help preparing and filing documents to be appointed as a probate conservator.

  • Screening for appropriateness of probate conservatorships or available alternatives
  • Referrals for other types of assistance
  • Overview of conservatorship law
  • Rights of the conservative and responsibilities of the conservator
  • The court forms needed to request a conservatorship
  • The petitioning

Federal civil rights protections are the basis for many important freedoms in our society. However, few people understand what civil rights laws are and how they work. This class will help you understand the basic civil rights statute 28 U.S.C. § 1983, its constitutional guarantees against abuses by government agencies, how to identify if your rights may have been violated and the potential claims to address the violation.

Tiaunia Bedell is an associate in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Los Angeles office where she is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department with a practice that focuses primarily on antitrust, breach of contract and transnational cases. She has represented clients in various industries including the medical device, media and entertainment, semiconductor, oil and gas, paper manufacturing and technology conducting industries.

Jennifer Rho is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She practices in the firm’s Litigation Department and Intellectual Property Group, focusing on representing clients in patent licensing and litigation matters involving consumer electronics, communications, defense, medical device, video game, and social networking technologies. Gathering Evidence and Testimony: What You Need to Know

However, the discovery process is complicated, not always intuitive, and can be daunting to a self-represented litigant. In this class, learn how to navigate the discovery process and best position your case for trial.

  • An overview of the types of discovery available to a civil litigant
  • Initiating and responding to written discovery
  • The preservation, collection and production of documents and other tangible items
  • Noticing, taking and appearing for depositions
  • Planning for the use of evidence at trial

Presented by Kristina Azlin and Michael Boardman:
Ms. Azlin is an experienced civil litigator in State and Federal courts and a partner at Holland & Knight.

Mr. Boardman is an associate at the firm and has also handled cases from inception through trial. Both attorneys are part of the firm’s West Coast Litigation Group.
